Project:

Electrical Power Distribution Improvements and Back-Up Power Modifications

Client:

City of Arlington

GAI as prime consultant, evaluated of the existing electrical distribution facilities at Pierce Burch Water Treatment Plant and John F. Kubala Water Treatment Plant. The evaluation recommended that the electrical distribution facilities be completely replaced at both locations, including consolidation of the electric service entrances.

J.F. Kubala WTP modifications include coordination with Oncor for incoming power; rewiring the pumps, starters, and variable frequency drives; and construction of a new electrical building. The design includes 4160V switchgear, 4160V RVSS units (4), 4160V VFDs (2), 4160/480 transformers, 480V switchboard, 480V feeders to existing plant MCCs and switchboards. The new 4160V switchgear will be coordinated with the existing generator paralleling switchgear. The I&C design will monitor breakers in the new switchgear and incorporate all controls for new HSPS motor starters. This will include the installation of a new PLC for the HSPS and eliminating the existing PLC. The plant control system will utilize a new Ethernet communication and fiber optic cable for communication.

At the Pierce Burch WTP modifications include coordination with Oncor for incoming power; rewiring the pumps; and construction of a new electrical building. The design includes 4160V switchgear, 4160/480 transformers (3), 480V switchboard, and 480V distribution from the Electrical Building. The design will provide two new 4160V, 2500kW generators and new paralleling 4160V switchgear sized to serve entire plant load. The I&C design will include the installation of a new PLC. The plant control system will utilize a new Ethernet communication and fiber optic cable for communication.

GAI will also provide PLC programming and update graphical user interface screens at both Plants.
